Oh My Aching Feet

I have been a waitress for over twenty years and I am still at it.  The wages have improved, so have the conditions.  I only wish my feet were not sore, my back did not ache and my knees did not click when I walk.  My foot pain is aching for foot pain relief.

I thought it was arthritis foot pain put it is just plain pain in the foot.  I have a friend who is a diabetic and has the diabetic foot pain that is common among those who are diabetic.

We talk often about how we can treat both my foot pain and her diabetic foot pain.

Feet can be real problems, each foot has twenty six bones with dozens of muscles, ligaments, and tendons attaching to those bones there is lot that can be dysfunctional.

That is the knowledge that my physical therapist has imparted to me.  I wear good shoes for work and pleasure, but the time on my feet has worn my feet down.

I read an article in a magazine of ten tips for healthy feet; they were pretty bland so here is my version of ten ways to keep the tootsies happy:

  • Check your feet, make sure they don’t stink and have good color to them.

  • Make sure they are clean, and dry between the toes.  (no toe jam)        

  • If you live in the desert climate grease those puppies.

  • Make sure your shoes fits, and feels good not just for the style.  Pain for the good looking shoe is not worth it.

  • When the pain in your feet brings you to your knees, you know you have waited to long to take care of the situation.  In other words, don’t ignore the foot pain.

  • Keep the nails neat and trim, straight across nothing fancy, don’t cut in the corners it can cause ingrown pain.

  • Wear good shoes and do some fun walking, move those muscles.  It you don’t use it you will lose it.

  • I alternate my shoes, my feet sweat and I want to give the shoes time to dry out.

  • It is hard to do it, but try not to walk barefoot it can cause injury and lead to infection.  It is hard to wear shoes on the beaches of Hawaii.

  • Put sun block on the feet when wearing sandals, those puppies will burn as quickly as those bald heads.
