Inside The Medical Spa

European spas have a long history of successful treatment programs that are based on more natural approaches, such as the use of mineralized thermal waters and mud rather then drugs and surgery.

My grandparents on both sides were from Eastern Europe and the tradition of soaking in mineral baths, steam rooms and being rub down with the smell of Eucalyptus all around was familiar. The joy that was those experiences has stayed to influence me to continue the quest for those familiar feelings.

Schvitz, (Yiddish, for steam room) the literal translation is sweating. Friday nights after dinner it was my time to drive my dad to his club. He was a fabulous masseuse; he could rub the knots out of a rope, this weekly treatment he incorporated into his life schedule. In the steam room he would massage friends and with the leaves of Eucalyptus tree, lightly beat the body. That sensation was a tingly, stimulating and left the body refreshed. It was Dads turn to receive a massage and truth be told there were none better than my Dad; but he appreciated the effort one made to reciprocate.

It was easy for me to get into the massage therapy profession; I wanted to be as good as my Dad. My latest opportunity involves my working in a medical spa as a massage therapist. My background and history has led me to the hands on style of treatments.

What is a medical spa? Medical health spas are facilities whose medical program is run under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, according to The International Medical Spa Association.

Medical spa equipment utilize lasers and light technology as well medical microdermabrasion, photo facials, botox, and Restylene injections, medical peels and other medical beauty procedures. You can also get traditional spa services like, facials, massages, body treatments and spa products like BodySense.

The esthetician and I work closely. We use and recommend BodySense products to relax, calm, and soothe to enhance the treatment procedure. Well trained estheticians and massage therapist, a good product line and procedures revolving around this client contact will bring them back again and again.

Wouldn’t you want to get your microdermabrasion or Restylane injections in a nice, warm, relaxing ergonomic chair while listening Flute Medicine CD, a warm soft and comforting NeckEase around your neck, and your hands in a soothing Muff.

The esthetician and I plan the service for our clients to give them the luxurious pampering they so deserve. We know the power of touch in treatment and healing which leads to positive response, leaving with a smile and good thoughts about the medical spa.

BodySense therapeutic blends contain whole, natural herbs and spices selected for their unique healing effects on the mind, body and spirit and proven through centuries of use in traditional medicine, ayurvedic therapies and modern holistic practice.

During a facial the client has her hands in a BodySense Muff, lying across her waist; providing a solution as what to do with the hands and in turn keep them warm and moist for the next experience. I will also use the BodySense Muff after I have turned my client on their back as I finish with the head and neck area; there hands are also warm and comfortable, with the moist heat. When my clients are face up and I want the feeling of darkness around them, I use the BodySense Eye Pillow, this keeps the mood the same and I am able to continue with the same rhythm. The esthetician, to keep her clients in a calm state before, during and after waxing, or laser vein therapy uses the BodySense Eye Pillow with its aroma and coolness for the enjoyable state of being for this procedure.

Massage therapist and estheticians are often the spokespeople for the medical spa, working in an organized practice with inclusive procedures can be a valuable part of any medical spa. The client may be in the practice for two or three visits with the esthetician or massage therapist before receiving services from the medical staff. Then post service, the client maintains a continuing relationship with the medical spa through post treatment procedures, home care purchases such as BodySense Aromatherapeutic Hot & Cold Products and routine treatment care. The client’s buy-in to the medical spa is confirmed.

Medical day spas are the fastest growing segment of the beauty industry.  Before and after medical spa treatments customers will always want quality products to take home and offer as gift ideas Medical spas will continue there expansion and incorporating new treatment with the old world methods.
